Monday & Tuesday, March 25-26

Monday:

Worked in teams to practice writing inequalities and graphing inequalities.

Within these pages students used the examples and then answered questions on page 106- 1, 5, 9, 13-16, 19, 21, 23, 25, on page 107 - 28, 35, 36

Tuesday:
We reviewed packet and students took a quiz.

Thursday, March 21

Reviewed the Exit Slip from Wednesday, (two real world problems from post below)

The we took a quiz on equations!

Tomorrow we move on the Inequalities!

Monday-Wednesday March 18 & 19

Tuesday:

Introduced Algebra Unit with vocabulary and one step equations:

 Solve with given solutions

Solve using opposite operations to isolate the variable.

We are solving one step and  one variable equations using opposite operations while solving.

We are focusing on real life problems and writing and solving equations as well!

1. Anita was selling Girl Scout cookies for the local Girl Scout Troop.

Each box of cookies costs $2.95. Mrs. Brown's total purchase cost $14.75.

Choose the equation that would determine how many boxes of Girl Scout

cookies were purchased by Mrs. Brown.

A. 2.95 (c) = 14.75

B. 2.95 + c = 14.75

C. 2.95 = 14.75 (c)

D. 2.95 (14.75) = c

Answer is A

2. Antonio has $45.00. He has $27.00 more than Jeramine.

Using "j" for Jeramine, which equation represents how much money Jeramine has?

A. 45 = j + 27

B. 45 + 27 = j

C. j + a = 54

D. j - a = 54

Answer is A

Test tomorrow!!!
We completed a review guide on a foldable today here are the examples we wrote in class. Students were to practice and to bring home other handouts pictured as well

For writing expressions using statements: the handout I gave in class has a errors on them. They are inequalities, therefore do not use them!! Here is a site that you can use:

Key Words to know for Operations:
Adding : more than, sum, increased by
Subtracting: difference decrease by
Multiplication: the product, of, twice = 2 times, 5 times a number
Division: the quotient, divided by

Friday, March 8

Today was a big day we completed work on three Properties: Associative, Identity and Distributive.

Students highlighted notes and added some notes to the sheets they were given. Below are the pictures of the notes we completed.

We watched some videos for the associative property as well.

Students worked on these two handouts as well.

The Exponent handout was due today!

Thursday, March 7

Continued more work and practice with order of operations with parentheses and exponents present.

Tuesday, March 5

Today we worked on Order of Operations:

Here is a link for a game to play dealing with order of operations.

We also looked at the commutative property of Addition and Multiplication.

Monday, March 4

Today we reviewed Exponents.

There was bellwork (as appears below)

This handout is due Friday, March 8

Then we continued to discuss expressions with notes and a card activity. the students worked in teams to creat expressions. Then we identified terms, coefficients, and variables with in the expressions made.

Lastly the students complete an exit slip:

** Firstly, I am sorry that I have not posted much this week. I have been out with my son :-(

We have begun a new unit- Unit 8: Pre-Algebra - Expressions

We began by completing the Pretest for the unit and then we completed notes about exponents and watched a video about Order of Operations (PEMDAS) that we will be using throughout this unit and the next!!
